Birth and death registration

Welcome to the Birth and Death Registration Project
   On July 2, 183, the then British government issued a law on birth registration in undivided Bengal. In the course of time, despite 117 years of geographical, political as well as various changes in the law, birth registration was not started in all parts of the country. Following this, the government repealed and repealed the Act of 183 and introduced the Act No. 29, i.e. Birth and Death Registration Act, 2004 on 6 December 2004. The law came into force on July 3, 2006. At the end of the pilot project of 2001-2006, the project started in 2006 under the name of Birth and Death Registration Project (Phase II) and ended in June 2012. Currently, the 3rd phase of the project will start from July 2012 and will continue till June 2015. The project is funded by UNICEF-Bangladesh. The total allocation against the project is Rs. 1800.00 lakhs; Of this, Government of Bangladesh contributes Tk. 1100.00 lakhs (Rs. Birth registration of more than 150 million people has been completed across the country. Online birth and death registration is being carried out in 5003 registrations in all Union Parishads, Municipalities, Cantonment Boards and City Corporations across the country and in 50 Bangladesh Missions in 39 countries abroad. In September 2013, the government amended the existing Birth and Death Registration Act to establish a Registrar General, Registration of Births and Deaths Register in order to keep the birth and death registration process continuous, dynamic and maintain a permanent database of births and deaths of citizens of the country. The administrative process of setting up the office is underway.
